I'm From...
One of my friends Marilyn Gardner shared this story with me last week. Talking about how her daughter had to write a poem with five short stanzas describing where she was from. I thought it truly captured the essence of being a Third Culture Kid. I thought it was amazing. Marilyn challenged me and naturally I accepted the challenge. Below is my version of where I am from in five stanzas. I challenge you all to do the same and send them to me. Can't wait to read them!
I’m from a place where East meets West
And sits down with North and South.
I’m from green, white and green
Yet always en route elsewhere.
I’m from the digital age and a flat world
Where connections and friendships are made virtually.
I’m from the world, my friends, my family and most importantly God.
From Lagos to Ouagadougou by way of Hanoi and Manhattan.
I’m from a place that accepts people of all kinds as one race.
I'm from where I am now.
